What this world has become is selfish. My needs trump anything that gets in the way. Nevermind you or your needs or anyone else's.
That's not what God commanded us to do: "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Jesus said that keeping this is equal to keeping some of the Ten Commandments. Loving the God who gives us every breath that we take covers the rest, and is actually the motivation for loving one's neighbor.
You see, God is so good that, instead of giving us what we deserve for lying, stealing, hating each other, lusting, etc, God sent Jesus to take that punishment for us and to rise from the dead to give us eternal life on Judgment Day. Now, if we are grateful for that, we will forsake our sins, and, in light of what God has done for wicked people like us, we will be much more kind to our neighbors, whether we like them or not.
